Port details and performance

Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 2 has been released as a port for the Switch 2. The game retains the story and gameplay of the 2019 original, following police officer Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they navigate a zombie-infested Raccoon City.

The Switch 2 version features smooth and stable framerates in handheld mode, with performance comparable to other handheld devices like the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally. However, the Switch 2 version includes HDR support, providing deeper blacks and color boosts compared to other handhelds where color palettes can appear washed out.

Visuals and gameplay mechanics

While playing in handheld mode, shadows can appear slightly blurrier, an effect also observed on other portable devices running on lower performance settings. The core mechanics remain unchanged from previous versions, requiring players to manage limited inventory space, solve puzzles, and balance resource management under constant tension from enemies and the antagonist Mr. X.

Depending on user preferences, the Switch 2 release offers portable play alongside docked mode, alongside the visual enhancements provided by HDR lighting.
