International introduction at Busan
The Vietnamese supernatural horror film “Bloodline: The Curse Within” is being presented to international buyers by Mockingbird Pictures at the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM), the market arm of the Busan International Film Festival. Mockingbird holds worldwide distribution rights for the project, which is known locally as “Huyết Thống.”
The feature is scheduled to open in theaters across Vietnam on Dec. 25. It forms part of Mockingbird’s newest lineup of Vietnamese titles aimed at expanding the reach of Southeast Asian films into territories outside their home markets.
Cast and storyline
The narrative centers on a celebrated pediatric heart surgeon whose daughter falls victim to a vengeful ghost connected to a long-hidden past. Facing an age-old curse that medicine cannot resolve, the surgeon must turn his medical scalpel toward his own buried sins.
Award-winning actor Quách Ngọc Ngoan leads the cast, joined by Quang Tuấn and Lan Phương. Director Đinh Đức Thiện noted that the production pairs medicine with spirituality to examine the limits of human sacrifice when loved ones face threats.
Production goals
Producer Hoàng Gia described the project as an attempt to ground genre scares in family ties, blood relationships, and intergenerational consequences. Phong Duong, business director at Mockingbird and co-executive producer on the film, emphasized that modern audiences demand quality across storytelling and performances.
Mockingbird Pictures annually handles upwards of 60 theatrical releases and more than 100 post-theatrical titles spanning horror, comedy, romance, and action, focusing increasingly on titles with international appeal.
