Developer Krafton has officially ended development on PUBG: Black Budget, its take on the extraction shooter genre. The project, led by PUBG Studios, was initiated following renewed interest in extraction shooters sparked by titles like Arc Raiders and Escape from Tarkov.

Project cancellation

Despite holding Closed Alpha tests in December and the following June to gather player feedback, Krafton decided to halt production after one year. In an announcement posted to the game’s Steam page, PUBG Studios explained that a review of the project’s status and future direction indicated it would not deliver a sustainable long-term experience for players.

“After reviewing the project’s development status and future direction, we concluded that its current direction would not allow us to deliver an experience players could enjoy over the long term,” PUBG Studios stated. “We have therefore made the difficult decision to end development of PUBG: Black Budget.”

Previous projects and future plans

The cancellation follows other experimental projects from Krafton that were also cut short, such as PUBG: Blindspot. However, the company continues work on other titles within the franchise, including the multiplayer roguelite PUBG DED.NET.

Studio representatives expressed gratitude to participants who took part in the Closed Alpha tests and shared feedback, noting that lessons learned from the development and testing process will be applied to future projects.
