Digital publication Polygon has launched Wishlister, a weekly newsletter aimed at helping users discover upcoming PC games available to add to their Steam wishlists.

Tackling industry discoverability

Industry participants frequently cite discoverability as one of the primary challenges facing the video game sector. According to data from SteamDB, an average of 70 new games are released daily on Steam, making it difficult for new titles to gain visibility upon launch. Finding promising upcoming games presents an additional hurdle for players navigating the platform.

Polygon developed Wishlister to address this issue by leveraging the publication’s daily coverage of new titles. The newsletter, which launched in September, delivers a weekly selection of six upcoming PC games directly to subscribers’ inboxes.

Eclectic game selection

Rather than focusing exclusively on major open-world role-playing games, the weekly roundup features a diverse mix of genre-spanning titles. Featured games have included Acornia: Mirror World, a card-collecting bakery simulator and squirrel action game by Tinykin developer Spalashteam; Cyberlich and the Death Cult of Labor, a corporate satire inspired by Doom; and Vivarium, a cozy game with an aesthetic reminiscent of a Studio Ghibli film.

Each weekly edition includes direct links to the Steam page for every featured game, allowing subscribers to bookmark titles for future release without any purchase commitment.
