Apple has announced its first foldable device, the iPhone Duo. The new smartphone features a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display equipped with a matte “nano-texture” finish and an almost invisible crease. Unveiled during Apple’s launch event led by CEO John Ternus, the device starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model.
Hardware and specifications
Instead of Face ID, the iPhone Duo utilizes a Touch ID sensor on the power button for authentication. The device includes an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, with Ceramic Shield 2 on the back and Ceramic Shield covering the front display. It is powered by the A20 Pro chipset and features two rear cameras: a main lens and a wide-angle lens, sharing the 48-megapixel fusion camera found in the iPhone 18 Pro without variable aperture.
Apple has also redesigned controls and applications in iOS 27 specifically for the foldable form factor, which includes repositioning the dock to the side of the phone and adding a passport-inspired folding shape.
Preorders and repair costs
Preorders for the iPhone Duo opened at $1,999, with Apple describing initial demand as “extraordinary.” Delivery estimates on Apple’s website extended into January 2027 within less than an hour of preorders opening. The device is scheduled to launch in stores on October 23rd.
For owners without AppleCare Plus, out-of-warranty repair costs published by Apple include $229 for battery service, $999 for inner display damage, and $1,499 for other damage.
