During a Saturday night broadcast, the “SNL U.K.” Weekend Update segment targeted the American sketch show’s recent hosting appearance by comedian Shane Gillis. Co-host Ania Magliano delivered the remarks following a series of other jokes during the programme.
Addressing the controversial monologue
Gillis drew attention during his previous hosting stint on the American counterpart program due to comments made during his opening monologue and an accidental profanity broadcast live on air, which violates NBC guidelines. During that monologue, Gillis made remarks regarding women’s gym wear, stating: “I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?” and describing the clothing style further.
The “SNL U.K.” response
Referencing Gillis’s remarks, Magliano joked about a Munich Oktoberfest ride operator providing cycling shorts to female riders to prevent upskirt incidents, noting it leaves them vulnerable to “something much worse.” A photograph of Gillis then appeared on screen to laughter from the live studio audience.
Magliano subsequently addressed the live broadcast profanity, pointing out that “SNL U.K.” operates under different broadcast allowances regarding swearing before delivering a direct insult toward the comedian on air.
