Reese Witherspoon partners with Mediawan to buy Hello Sunshine

Reese Witherspoon and Paris-based content group Mediawan have partnered to acquire production company Hello Sunshine from Candle Media.

Actor and producer Reese Witherspoon and Paris-based content group Mediawan have partnered to acquire production company Hello Sunshine from Candle Media. The transaction unites Hello Sunshine with Mediawan and its network of creative companies, while also allowing the production company to explore a wider range of storytelling formats and distribution models.

Leadership and strategic integration

Following the acquisition, Hello Sunshine founder Reese Witherspoon will invest alongside Mediawan and join Pierre-Antoine Capton and his teams. Hello Sunshine co-founder Seth Rodsky will take a seat on the company’s board alongside Witherspoon and Mediawan representatives.

“Mediawan has built a global, independent studio by putting creators first. That has always been my vision for Hello Sunshine,” Witherspoon said, describing the move as a homecoming and noting previous support from Peter Chernin and Jesse Jacobs.

Mediawan stated that the acquisition aligns with its strategy to build a creative talent platform by uniting independent production companies under one umbrella while preserving their creative independence and identities.

Mediawan’s expanding ecosystem

Hello Sunshine joins an ecosystem of more than 100 production labels within Mediawan, which includes companies such as Kinetic Content, Wiedemann & Berg, Palomar, Our Films, Drama Republic, Chapter2, Chi-Fou-Mi, Chernin Entertainment, Plan B Entertainment, and See-Saw Films.

“Led by a generational talent in Reese, Hello Sunshine has an extraordinary track record of telling premium stories through film and TV and forming strong connections with audiences through Reese’s Book Club,” said Pierre-Antoine Capton, co-founder and CEO of Mediawan Group. Capton added that bringing these brands together gives producers access to a broader pool of talent, intellectual property, and resources while maintaining their independence.
