New 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' video reveals the secret stories behind its best Easter eggs

A bonus feature for the home video release of Destin Daniel Cretton’s blockbuster film details how classic comic book covers inspired live-action scenes.

Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has arrived on video-on-demand platforms following a 70-day theatrical run. The film achieved notable commercial success, becoming the top domestic box-office hit in U.S. history and generating $2.5 billion worldwide.

Behind the ‘Live-Action Comics’ extra

The digital release includes a series of special features that will also accompany physical editions slated for December 15. Among the extras is a featurette titled “Live-Action Comics,” which demonstrates how director Destin Daniel Cretton and stunt coordinator Peng Zhang recreated iconic Marvel Comics covers for live-action sequences.

For early confrontations in the film, Cretton used mounted printouts of source artwork to plan camera choreography. The battle between Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and Tombstone (Marvin Jones III) draws inspiration from a 1988 Spectacular Spider-Man comic cover by Gerry Conway and Sal Buscema. Meanwhile, Peter’s fight against Scorpion (Michael Mando) references Alex Saviuk’s art from a 1995 issue of Spider-Man Adventures.

Home video pricing and special editions
