The rise of Imodna in Campaign 3
In a recent Founders Favorites interview on the streaming service Beacon, Critical Role cast member and co-founder Laura Bailey reflected on past campaigns and highlighted the romance between Imogen Temult, played by Bailey, and Laudna, played by Marisha Ray.
Throughout Campaign 3, Imogen—a human sorcerer whose psychic abilities made her an outcast—found solace with Laudna, an undead sorceress and warlock linked to the necromancer Delilah Briarwood. While earlier campaigns featured dynamics between Bailey’s characters and other party members, the relationship between Imogen and Laudna became a central narrative point.
An unplanned confession
Bailey revealed that the pivotal moment in episode 65, “Path of Vengeance,” where Imogen asks “Can I kiss you?” was entirely unplanned. According to Bailey, she was nervous and uncertain why she chose that exact moment following a party separation and magical item acquisition that temporarily blocked Imogen from hearing others’ thoughts.
Overcoming hurdles and future outlook
A major obstacle in the relationship was Delilah Briarwood’s control over Laudna. However, during episode 103, “Cages,” the Bells Hells and Essek Thelyss successfully trapped Delilah’s soul in an anchor embedded inside Laudna. Although Delilah was not completely gone, the containment allowed Imogen and Laudna to plan a future, eventually settling down in a quiet cottage and marrying after the conclusion of Campaign 3.
