Fox Entertainment Global (FEG) is launching a new production hub in Malaysia to facilitate international versions of the survival competition format Extracted. The initiative marks the network’s first international production hub, following the establishment of a Next Level Chef hub in Ireland for the Gordon Ramsay series.
Unveiling at MIPCOM
Sales executives at FEG are introducing the Malaysian hub to buyers at the MIPCOM market in Cannes. The turnkey facility is located in the wilderness of Lake Kenyir and features permanent headquarters, built sets, and access to local crews and tax incentives. According to Fox, the site is equipped with extensive camera setups.
Background of ‘Extracted’
Extracted launched last year and has been renewed for a third season, drawing 45 million viewers across its first two seasons. The executive-produced series by Sylvester Stallone previously filmed its first two seasons in British Columbia. The format places ordinary individuals in an isolated wilderness setting with no training or supplies, while their families monitor them from a remote headquarters and decide whether to let them continue or end their journey.
“Extracted has all the ingredients of a universally resonant format: a powerful premise, stunning visuals, unforgettable family dynamics, and incredibly high stakes,” said FEG President Prentiss Fraser. “The infrastructure we’ve built in this Malaysia hub accelerates the series’ international expansion, offering licensees the infrastructure and expertise to create their own versions more efficiently, while delivering the scale and intensity that make the show so compelling.”
