New project follows longstanding collaborations
Writer Diablo Cody has lined up familiar partners for her next film project, Always, Roxanne. The upcoming feature will be produced by Nathan Kahane through his True North banner alongside Mason Novick, extending a creative partnership that spans over 10 projects between Cody and Novick.
Novick previously earned an Oscar nomination for producing Cody’s Best Picture nominee Juno, and the pair are also currently working together on a sequel to the cult classic Jennifer’s Body.
Plot and background
Cody’s script centers on Roxanne, an obsessive high school senior who travels to her ex-boyfriend’s college campus in an attempt to win him back. Her plan leads her to wage war on his new girlfriend before accidentally finding the first person who truly understands her. The film does not yet have a director attached.
Kahane previously worked with Cody and Novick on Juno and Young Adult during his tenure at Mandate Pictures. Reflecting on the new collaboration, Kahane stated that he could not imagine a better time to reunite with his former partners than a moment when younger audiences are rediscovering the theatrical experience.
Extensive industry credits
Cody won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for her breakout coming-of-age romance Juno. Her broader filmography includes Tully, Ricki and the Flash, and Lisa Frankenstein. She is represented by WME and MXN Entertainment.
Kahane’s production history includes shepherding the Neighbors and Harold and Kumar comedy franchises, as well as films such as This Is the End, Don’t Breathe, Good Boys, and Stranger Than Fiction, while at Mandate and Good Universe. Prior to launching True North, he served as President of the Motion Picture Group at Lionsgate. Novick’s additional producing credits include (500) Days of Summer and Forbidden Fruits.
