Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation have expanded the voice cast of their upcoming musical comedy “Bad Fairies” with the additions of Kylie Minogue, Jonathan Groff and Catherine Tate.

Cynthia Erivo, who leads the animated feature as Jayne Staplegun, announced the casting additions during her Hollywood Bowl concert “Let Me Sing to You.” The event’s second half opened with an orchestral piece based on “Hard to Believe,” a song from the film composed by Tony Award winners Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. Erivo introduced Groff and Tate before revealing that Minogue would also join the project.

Character roles and production details

Minogue is set to voice Clowder, described as a Cat Witch, while Groff will voice Robin Goodfellow, and Tate will take on the role of the Fairy Gothmother.

Set in contemporary London, “Bad Fairies” follows a group of rule-breaking fairies. The wider voice cast includes Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Fei Chang, James Acaster as Stickers, Dee Bradley Baker as Groundbeef, and Ncuti Gatwa as Butterwort.

The film is directed by Megan Nicole Dong and co-directed by Olivier Staphylas from an original screenplay by Deborah Frances-White. Isabella “Machine” Summers of Florence and the Machine is providing the score, with Ian Eisendrath serving as executive music producer.

Release and creative leadership

Production is currently underway in London, with DNEG Animation acting as the digital partner. “Bad Fairies” is scheduled for theatrical release on May 27, 2027.

Bill Damaschke, President of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, stated that the film centers on characters who “break the rules to do some good.” Locksmith Animation CEO Natalie Fischer added that the project reflects the storytelling style the studio aims to produce.
