CD Projekt Red’s role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 is being adapted into a live-action movie by Paramount Pictures. The project will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura alongside CD Projekt Red.
Production details and studio slate
Specific details regarding the film, including who will write, direct, and star in the adaptation, have not yet been announced. The project forms part of Paramount’s broader push into video game adaptations, which also includes live-action projects for Street Fighter and Call of Duty.
Background of the franchise
Released in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 follows the mercenary V, who takes on a job to steal an implant containing the memory and personality of the rock star Johnny Silverhand. The game is set in the dystopian Night City, controlled by the Arasaka Corporation. According to joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski, the game has sold more than 40 million copies.
The franchise has previously expanded to other media. CD Projekt collaborated with Japanese animation studio Trigger on the Netflix anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, with a sequel series set to premiere. A video game sequel, Cyberpunk 2, entered pre-production in May 2025.
